"The VJC's own Big Band returns for the 3rd annual Big Band
Gala, which promises to be as fun-filled as the last two.  Formed
in 2002, the VJC Big Band is an ensemble of professional
musicians from throughout the region.  The band hones the works
of maestros such as Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, and Gil Evans,
and they have been honored to perform the music of composer
and trombonist, Rob Levitt.  Rising star Sarah Elizabeth Charles
will join them on stage once more.  This remarkably
accomplished young singer has earned many honors and
numerous scholarships to prestigious music programs, including
the Vermont Jazz Center's Summer Workshop, where she has
studied with Sheila Jordan.  The event will be a high point for
area swing dance enthusiasts, as well as jazz audiences."
